reconciling things

“Allow it all to happen: beauty and terror…” Rilke

I am glad you are here.

My name is Daja.

When I started this blog it was the place I traced my path from Protestantism to Catholicism. It is still that. But it is also where I try to reconcile other things—my place in the world, the tension between boundaries and vulnerability, grief and loss, sex and friendship and beauty and art and politics in the Church and the solace of Home.

I think too much. I feel everything. I drink a lot of coffee and start projects I don’t finish. I write and dream and I love naps. I am the mother of at least 11. ItI I am divorced, annulled by the Church, and as of 2025 married to my best friend.

If you stop by my home in the evenings you may see a lot of candles lit and the smell of incense thick in the air and various states of chaos throughout. In the winter there is mulled wine, in the summer margaritas. And year ’round there is music, there are books, there are animals, and something cooking in the kitchen. There are friends. All kinds of friends around the table reconciling our differences with the world and with ourselves.

“Whoever manages to reconcile the many contradictions of his life, and views them gratefully as one big theme, will drive all noisemakers out of the house and celebrate so differently at dusk with you alone as guest.” Rilke

  1. Hi, my name is Cadence McManimon, I also write for Catholic Match Plus! I just wanted to reach out and tell you how much I liked your article on celibacy and sex that was published today. It was a breath of fresh air amid so much serious, overly transcendent discussion regarding Catholic theology of our physical selves. Looking forward to exploring your blog here too!

    God bless,

    Cadence
